“The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished” (2 Peter 2:9)
The Lord not only knows how to do this but this truth has been on display from the very beginning. Noah was, and remained, righteous in the midst of his generation. When the Lord sent the flood for destruction, Noah had an ark. In the midst of wicked Sodom stood Lot, a righteous man. When the Lord utterly destroyed that city, Lot was given a way of escape. We are sober considering these two things. God knows how to, and will, destroy the wicked and in the midst of destruction save the godly. The Lord will not forget us. He will not forget the wicked either.
Let us continue in the Lord, brethren. That great day is coming and if we continue in Him, we have this ark and this way of escape – the Lord Jesus Christ! Furthermore, this text is not only talking about that day that is yet to come, but also right now. Right now God is able to keep us from temptations and right now He is keeping the unjust reserved for wrath. Be comforted knowing this about God. He knows what He is doing.
