“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” (2 Corinthians 4:6-7)

Praise God! He has given us to know Him! In His infinite wisdom He has revealed to us His glory without destroying us! Remember the no one can endure seeing Him face to face. I stand in awe of the wisdom and mercy of God. He sent us Jesus and if you have seen Him you have seen the Father. But also consider this, that not everyone who saw Christ recognized Him as the Son of God. So how blessed are your eyes, brethren, because God has given you to see!

So, now there is the matter of having this great treasure in an earthen vessel. Our outer man is not an accurate representation of who we are. This flesh is fading away, yet our treasure within is daily increasing! For now we have to contend with “momentary, light afflictions” as the chapter goes on to say. Let these be the words that come to our minds as we face various trials of this life: “They are but for a moment” and “they are not worthy to be compared to the glory that will be revealed!”

A dear brother in Christ recently told me “the outlook for the believer is always good, always comforting, always glorious if we will look far enough.” So, I exhort you to look not at the things that are seen but rather set your sight on heaven and the glory that is to be brought to you. And as you do God Himself will be glorified in you!
