1 Peter 5:2-3
Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being examples to the flock.
Elders are instructed by the fellow elder to tend and feed the flock of God. Contrary to the ways of the world this is not to be done as a “have to” but as a “want to”. The elders which rule well care for the people of God in word and deed and with the desire to help them. They do this in recognition of how THE Chief Shepherd leads them. The shepherd doesn’t just bark instructions but leads by example. Consider this among “your own flock”, whether that be your family, your friends or in the church. Do not lord it over others (we have a Lord already) but be an example in word, deed, and all holy conversation.
