” Choose for yourselves this day whom you will ” Joshua 24:15a

As believers, we have made this decision. We have chosen to serve God, to belong to Him. This makes facing temptations and trials a little easier because we know to Whom we belong and we know that He will help us to choose the path of righteousness. But, I believe that this choosing who we will serve is also a daily, even moment by moment decision that we must make. We face new struggles every day, and with every new temptation and trial we must once again choose who we will serve in that moment. Will we serve God or will we serve the flesh? Having to face this decision over and over every day could become discouraging and overwhelming if we were in this alone. Thankfully, we are not alone, God is always with us.

“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23

God is all knowing, He knows that we face new struggles daily and He has made provisions for this. Why would He provide new mercies every morning if we did not need them?? He knows what we need and He is faithful to supply us with all the strength, ability, grace, patience, guidance, and wisdom that we need to remain faithful in whatever situation we face. We cannot do it alone, but with Him we cannot fail. God cannot be outdone and we cannot be overcome within Him. ” I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:1

Mark 7:37
And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.”

The work of Christ is always done well. He is good and therefore His works are good. He is compassionate. Jesus is always on the initiative to help men: help their unbelief; help their infirmity; and minister grace to help them overcome.

This knowledge will provoke men who are aware of their need for help to seek Him if they might only touch the hem of His garment. Such men will find rest for their souls.

“Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.”
1John 5:4

God has called us out of this world, brethren, by our faith.  We have been chosen by Him and can face any challenge, any circumstance, anything this world can throw at us because of our faith.  When we are weak, we are strong, because Christ won the battle for us.

2peter1:4-  “giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Citizens of heaven are not idle. Their lives are ones of diligence, continuing steadfastly in a task until the goal has been accomplished. All diligence must be given to the adding to our faith,  growth does not happen by accident

“Be not afraid. Only believe.” (Mark 5:36)

It is staggering how many times the people of God are exhorted, “be not afraid” or “do not fear”. In fact, Jesus said this rather regularly to the people of His day. All the fears of men come from the flesh and we all must contend with the temptation to do so. But fear has an expectation of torment or trouble. Jesus has delivered us from the fear of death and faith is able to overcome all doubts of the sufficient provision of God. Will circumstances change? Maybe not. Will all afflictions, persecutions and tribulations cease? No. But even still we need not fear. Believe only. God is able to rescue, deliver, and keep you in the midst of trouble. When the fire blazes around you, know that their is one like the son of God with you. And that which is eternal will not be touched by the flames nor will the smell of smoke be upon your spirit. Believe that.

“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2Co 4:6).

Life in Christ started with a glimpse at the glory of God, particularly through Christ our savior. Our life can only be sustained by the same: not by “doing” but by “looking.” “There’s life for a look at the savior, life more abundant and free”

“Known unto God are all His works from the beginning of the world” Acts 15:18

God has foreknowledge and the primary aspect of this foreknowledge is He knows His own works, and His works are the primary works. God also declares the end from the beginning … and His councel shall stand, and He will do all His pleasure. Not only has God spoken it but He will also bring it to pass. He has purposed it and He will also do it (Is. 46:10-11). God’s foreknowledge is for the most part unique only to Him, however in salvation God is sharing this knowledge with His people. Brethren there are things that we know. We know these things to be true and factual. Things that have not yet come to be fulfilled however they are things WE KNOW. Here are just a few examples: We KNOW that all things work together for good to them that love God.. Rom. 8:28 Ye KNOW that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Cor. 15:58, KNOWING that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: Col. 3:24, We KNOW that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. 1 John 3:2
These things we know are still before us but God has allowed us to know them and lay hold of them. This is a knowledge of God’s work and we rejoice in it.

” Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8

” If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” Colossians 3:1-2

” For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Romans 8:6

If we fill out hearts and minds with things from above, things of God, things that have eternal value; then there will be no room for the troubles and worries of this earth to cloud our vision of eternity in glory.

Ezra 3:11
And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the Lord:
“For He is good,
For His mercy endures forever toward Israel.” Then all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.

The laying (again) of the temple foundation was cause for great rejoicing among the people of God. Here is where the temple would be built, here is where the priests would minister, here is the place the sacrifice for sins, here is where the covenant of God was remembered and God would commune with His People.

Now, think of how greater a cause for rejoicing we have in Christ. For there is only one foundation for us, even Jesus Christ Himself. And the church and all things of eternal consequence are built upon Him. He is the place of where the temple is built, “in Him”  the priests do minister, in Him there is sacrifice for sins, He is the very covenant of God and God  communes with His People in Christ.

Ephesians 2:19-22
Christ Our Cornerstone
Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
