Romans 6:5 reads,
For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection
The new birth is preceded by a death. Specifically, men are “buried with Christ” in hope of being joined with Him in His resurrection. In this death the body of sin is done away with and the new man is created in the believer. The new man is one of righteousness and true holiness (Eph 4:24). This is the start of eternal life for the believer. He now has life from heaven housed in a vile body. This experience is expressed by the Holy Spirit in these words: “treasure” in an “earthen vessel” (2 Cor 4:7).
The result? The person will never be the same. He is now living the rest of his life in the body not for himself but for the one who died for him and rose again (2 Cor 5:17). He is living unto God. And this is only appropriate because he has been joined to the Lord.
What glory the new birth brings! So, mount up with wings, child of God, and live righteously in this present age. You are a new creature and it is natural for the new creature to live like Jesus.
“For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Rom 6:10-11)
